Folklore records of Jewish life: Belief in the meaning of names

The article appeared first in the journal of the Polish Ethnological Society  (Polskie Towarzystwo Ludoznawcze) “Lud” in 1899. It concerns the observation of the significance of names in the Jewish culture and faith. The author describes what is the significance of christening (giving names) by the Jewish people and portrays existing rules in this regard partly derived from the Jewish religion, and partly from the Jewish tradition.
